Singaporeans are by and large timd and fearful sheep, they need a lot of courage to vote against PAP due to years of brainwashing in school or state controlled media. So to take one person to vote against PAP, the barrier is quite high.

Mr. Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo En Ming is also a Singaporean, but a Targeted Individual at that.

I am sharing a Facebook post by Facebook user Liew, as follows:

"Before this election, my ward is under Punggol East SMC which was won by Mr. Charles Chong. Before Charles Chong, the ward was under WP’s Li Li Lian. When the ward was under WP, the area was very clean, the lifts especially. After Charles Chong took over, the area was dirtier than before I asked the cleaners, they told me the contractor reduced the manpower, putting less people but covering more blocks and the number was quite ridiculous. I never saw Mr Chong before he won Punggol East or after, he was never in the vicinity, his posters were there during the festive seasons, the same picture photo-shopped with different backgrounds. When PAP wards increased service and conservancy fees several times, I did not see any improvement in the cleanliness. I only saw the cleaners coming in lorry to clean the estate whenever there is assessment in town council cleanliness report cards, this is to me very wrong, they were playing the system. So if any voter tells you opposition can’t run town council, don’t let them bluff you.

The recent election, the PAP candidate came to knock on my door. I asked him about the 6.9M or 10M question, he did not have answers for me. The reason being, I know on my floor alone, there are four unemployed local PMETs, one end up as security guard, one driving PHV and they are like in their forties. Of course he asked me if they had gone to WSG or E2i, I told him they said they kept asking them to write CVs and still no job and finally told them to be security guard because it is better to be employed than to be jobless. So this PAP candidate looked really bad with no answers. I said I only saw you guys every five years, after this you will disappear and will come back next election, he looked as if resigned to my comment. He thanked me and left, without saying any advice or anything. Of course this is something he can’t solve and will not solve, this is caused by the policies of his party he is planning to contest.

The day after losing Sengkang GRC, the state media is in swing to shape the reasons to why they lost, they are trying to plant reasons in the minds of future voters. Talking about no amenities and no coffee shops but avoided the key reasons to the loss. Basically what they wanted to do is shape the voters into focusing on upgrading infrastructure which PAP is always using to win votes. And the second day after the GE, state media is already talking about change to CPF to curb usage for buying property.

As a Sengkang voter, I am sharing my views on why they lost, it is little to do with Lam’s PMD fiasco. It is real anger with PAP failed policies. If you look carefully, many wards nearly fell to the opposition, even strong hold like West Coast nearly falling to first time opposition PSP. Singaporeans are by and large timd and fearful sheep, they need a lot of courage to vote against PAP due to years of brainwashing in school or state controlled media. So to take one person to vote against PAP, the barrier is quite high.

The key reasons I could suggest are:

1. 6.9M/10M is too much for Singapore, many locals are finding hard to get jobs and job security is a big issue. At this stage, the government will not commit that they are not implementing it just like they said 6.9M is just a planning parameter. The government kept insisting that the door must remain open and let foreigners compete in all sectors. This explains why tourists are landing jobs and locals are taking months.

2. Pro foreigner policies: Becoming very obvious and locals are often discriminated at work place or finding jobs when the hiring manager or the HR is a foreigner. Locals feel they are now the third class in their own backyard.

3. Public Housing getting really expensive: Most young people will need to carry twenty five years loan with no job security to secure a diminishing pigeon hole.

4. Alarming numbers of local PMETs becoming self employed as PHV drivers, Grab Food Deliveries, Real Estate Agents or Insurance Agent at relatively young age.

5. Cost of living is getting scary.

6. CPF changes are frequent and each change citizens end up losing more benefits or entrap.

7. Repressive law to curb freedom of speech and rights.

These are some major issues that I could relate.

I believe WP looks to be a promising party with good vision. Low retired at his peak to let new blood transits, he does not hold on to power. I had seen Pritam and him several times in Bedok Reservoir and Hougang, sometimes during weekend and week days, they really work very hard and very approachable. These MPs connect with the ground unlike PAP MPs, usually you never see them or they are the usual arrogant and snobbish like Josephine or Shamugam. Of course we know oppositions does not have real power to change thing but if they don’t grow, our situation will be even worst with one party absolute. There might be some inconvenience but for the greater good of Singaporean policies, you need a strong opposition that will help to air"
