Subject: Review of SGD$118 BDF HL-1088A3 Netbook
I had an impulse to buy and try this BDF HL-1088A3 netbook because it is super duper cheap. The price being SGD$118.
The seller is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. I placed an order on 17 April 2020. The netbook was shipped and delivered to me in Singapore on 26 April 2020, merely 9 days later. I must say that international shipping from China to Singapore is rather speedy.
For a price of SGD$118, I was pleasantly surprised the netbook is able to play 4K UHD videos, albeit with horizontal lines in the middle of the screen. Although there are artifacts, 4K UHD videos play smoothly on the netbook with the Videos app.
Playing YouTube videos through Wi-Fi is also smooth. I was able to install Adobe Acrobat Reader for reading PDF documents as well.
To transfer photos and videos from SD cards (there is a SD/MMC card slot on the netbook) to portable harddisks, you need to install MLUSB Mounter and NTFS Write. Support for NTFS filesystem is not native because the operating system of the netbook is Android, not Windows or regular Linux. Although the netbook runs on Android, it allows you to use a USB optical mouse. And there is a conventional keyboard. To facilitate connectivity, there are 2 USB ports. The netbook also has a RJ45 network port for users who do not wish to use Wi-Fi.
