Subject: I am not sure whether my Microsoft 365 account has been compromised

Good day from Singapore,

I am not sure whether my Microsoft 365 account has been compromised. On the morning of 21 December 2020 Monday, between 9.29 AM and 10.34 AM Singapore Time, I received 16 Microsft verification code SMSes in total. In addition, I also received 2 Microsoft verification phone calls from +18553308653 (US phone number) at 9.43 AM and 10.12 AM Singapore Time. I received all of these on my NEW mobile number +65 XXXX XX80.

Based on the above information, I assumed that the hacker had already correctly guessed my password before proceeding to send me Microsoft verification code SMSes and Microsoft verification phone calls.

When I login to my Microsoft 365 account, I realized that my registered mobile mumber is still tied to my OLD mobile number +65 XXXX XX24.

This means that if the hacker is trying to access my Microsoft 365 account, Microsoft verification code SMSes and Microsoft verification phone calls should be directed to my OLD mobile number +65 XXXX XX24 instead of my NEW mobile number +65 XXXX XX80.

I took over the NEW mobile number +65 XXXX XX80 on 2nd July 2020 and my OLD mobile number +65 XXXX XX24 was subsequently terminated sometime in August 2020.

Could it be that the previous subscriber of my NEW mobile number +65 XXXX XX80 was trying to access his Microsoft 365 account? Which is why I received 16 Microsoft verification code SMSes and 2 Microsoft verification phone calls on my NEW mobile number +65 XXXX XX80?

I have not changed my registered mobile number in my Microsoft 365 account to my NEW mobile number yet.
