Facebook post by Lim Tean: High Court Awards Lee Hsien Loong $370 000 Damages Against Terry Xu In Defamation Action.

Justice Audrey Lim handed down her decision in Lee Hsien Loong’s defamation action against Terry Xu this morning.

The judge awarded Lee Hsien Loong total damages of $210 000 against Terry. She also made Terry jointly liable for another $160 000 in damages which she awarded against the writer of the article complained of. Terry’s total liability therefore stands at $370 000. Once costs is determined, the figure is likely to be even higher.

In addition, the judge also granted an injunction to prevent TOC from publishing or referring to the words complained of.

We are very disappointed with the judgment and I am discussing with Terry on the next course of action.

It is evident to me from a quick read of the 60 page judgment that the judge did not consider or understand the import of many relevant pieces of evidence which we put forward in the trial, which would have proven Terry’s defence.

There is also absolutely no basis to make Terry jointly liable for the $160 000 in damages which was awarded against the writer of the article. Terry was not even a party to that set of proceedings which Lee Hsien Loong brought against the writer.

Terry is starting a crowd-funding campaign and I hope many patriotic Singaporeans who love freedom, free speech and a free press will donate generously to the crowd-funding campaign. You did it for Leong Sze Hian and Roy Ngerng and I ask you to do it once again for Terry.

Terry and TOC are the shining beacon for a freer society that Singapore must become if We and our Next Generation are to see better days.

I append below the account which Terry has set up for crowd-funding.
